Maya Gaorry (Italy)

Glaucia Castelluber, in art Maya Gaorry, of Italo-Brazilian origin. She has a degree in psychology from São Paulo University and has been devoting herself to the study and practice of oriental dance for many years.Maya Gaorry is a dancer and a teacher of middle-eastern dance at an international level. She has been running workshops in many Italian cities, as well as in Slovenia, Lebanon (2° Oriental Dance Festival di Amani - 2006), Canada, Japan, Russia, Usa, Croatia, Brazil, Argentina (Congreso Intercultural Arte, Música y Danzas de Medio Oriente, 2007), Sweden (Layali Oriental Dance Festival - 2006 and 2007) and Portugal (2° International Festival, Lisbon 2005). Her dance is defined primarily by Egyptian style and is further characterized by particularly smooth hip movements, perhaps thanks to her Brazilian origins. Maya has her own stile creation "Sambalady", mix of brasilian samba and oriental percussion, a big sucess all over the world!!!

She attends training courses and workshops. She took part many times in the International Oriental Dance Festival, which was held in Cairo (Egypt) and was attended by the world-wide most prestigious teachers. In 2005 she attended the Amani oriental dance festival in Lebanon and in 2006 she became one of the international teachers.

Maya lives in Trieste (Italy) where she experienced working with belly dance in the field of mental health at the 'Centro Donna di Salute Mentale' (1999). She is the president of "Racks al shark", an association for the promotion of middle-eastern dance, she runs her own school and is art-director for the Shams middle-eastern dance company. She directed theatre performances such as "Orient" and "Soul of the desert", the former of which took part in the programme "Palcoscenico Giovane" in Trieste (2003). Maya has been a guest in a number of radio programmes and television shows. She was guest dancer during the Belly Dance Superstars's show in Milan (2004).
