This is an awesome BLOG to write for me and I will tell you why…

3 years ago while organizing the miami Bellydance Convention, I had the opportunity to meet a wonderful talented dancer that registered for the 2009 belly dance competition at my event. She was sweet and shy, yet very powerful and loud on stage… that was Valerick Molinary. I remember watching the professional category of the competition in 2009 seating on the front row of the main gala show room. I was blown away by this girl talent, she was the last one to perform and compete. I remember asking everyone, who is she? where she comes from? how did she get here? lol …You might think that as an organizer I should know all of this details, but it was my second year organizing the event and I was trying to do it all.

Once the competition finished, I was the first one to receive the score sheet from the judges, and I was so happy to know that everyone else saw what I saw about Valerick that day on stage…Oh My God, what a beautiful dancer

Needles to say that Valerick took the First Place and prize of the professional category competition of the MBC in 2009… and that’s when the story actually begins.

Valerick was invited the following year to participate as one of the featured instructors of the MBC , in that year there was several sponsors from other countries such as Mexico, Japan, Dominican Republic, and all over the USA that got to meet and see for themselves the amazing talent of this up-coming superstar.

Valerick was able to secure gigs outside the USA such as Mexico , Dominican Republic, as well as in Huston Texas, New York , and even an opportunity to come to South Florida and change her life around!

When I saw Valerick in 2010 I was in tears after her performance on one of the gala shows, and that’s when my fiancee approached me and said, you should totally talk to that girl this man knows me well :p

I approached Valerick and told her that I wanted her to work at my academy and that I will defnitely work to push her into the South Florida belly dance industry…and I did Today, Valerick is teaching at my studio and her classes, and workshops are each day growing more and more, she has secured gigs and traveling opportunities more than before, she is moving forward and becoming an amazing business woman and little by little i am so amazed to see her making her mark and shining everywhere she goes.

Outstanding NEWS about MBC 2012!

Hello Everyone!

A couple of days ago, I told you to expect this email and here it is. The main purpose is to reveal the outstanding NEWS about the Miami Bellydance Convention 2012 Festival!

As you all might know by now, I have being super busy organizing this event for the last 5 years all by myself, together with my dance academy since its opening 2 years ago.

My life has become a bit hectic and very busy, but I really enjoy what I do , so it is always with pleasure that I organize this amazing events. However, my schedule has become so unmanageable that I definitely knew that it was time to change things around and give myself the freedom and time off that I deserve for my hard work throughout the years.

I recently met with a group of woman that were very interested in partaking and get involved with the Miami Bellydance convention. As a good entrepreneur that I am , I always like to make sure that I get involved with people that share my same vision and long term goals in business. You might ask yourself why? well, the truth is this, I am a very well orientated business woman, and everything that has my name on it must be done with integrity, loyalty, purpose, and a long term mission.

When the MBC idea started in my head I did not know if I could really do this on my own, but i did had total fate on my vision. Most importantly I had a mission that I wanted to achieve and a standard that I wanted to create. After months wondering if I should take on the adventure on organizing this event, I decided that it was time to take the first step and really move forward with this. I decided to speak to a friend about my idea, I had a good sense of this person’s strong work, drive and passion for belly dancing, so I brought her on board. Within a few months it was one of those nagging senses you get when you know someone really well, and can detect even the slightest energy shift from them. I was feeling pretty strong that something was not right. Within days, I found out that my “funny feeling” was right on. Something was up and what came next was a bittersweet, yet necessary break-up.

I realized that this person and I did not share the same vision, nor did we have the same purpose with the event so I decided to take on the adventure on my own just like the Idea started .

The miami Bellydance convention has being growing none stop since 2008 and everything has improved with the years, with all my due respect to all other events organizers, I must say that the MBC has set a standard that no one else has being able to match. Please know that this is not to say that I am better than anyone else out there, but my determination, long hours of work, and commitment to make this a ” Great event for everyone” has paid off.

Today, I am proudly announcing that part of the MBC has being sold to a group of wonderful woman that share my same vision and mission for the art of belly dance and the community in general. I am stepping down as the “main and only organizer” of the event to partner up with this amazing woman of the Miami Bellydance Group.

Their intensions is to continue to bring quality events to South Florida, and get all the Miami Bellydance Community involved. Not only this is a great opportunity for all dance schools out there, but to all dancers in general.

This decision was difficult to make just like the one I had to make when the whole event idea started, but the truth is that I have big goals for my own business that I need to devote all of my time to in 2012. I think this is a great lesson in getting clear on how many projects you can actually handle – most entrepreneurs have so many great ideas it can be easy to spread ourselves too thin. You can find yourself working on 5 projects at once, none of them becoming as successful as you like because none of them are getting your full attention.

I learned that you have to listen to your heart over what makes “sense”.

With that said, please note that you will still see me and my fiance at the event running like crazy people lol!! I will have say in all decisions for the event, and I will finally be working as a group with people that share my same views, believe, and wisdom.

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all doing Fantastic, we are working and planning none stop for the 2012 Miami Bellydance convention! We are celebrating 5 years of quality belly dance workshops, instructors, performers, competition, vendors, musicians, and SERVICE! We are so excited for all the things coming for the 2012 Biggest Belly dance Festival of the East Coast! Of course there are 5 days to celebrate, and next year the 2012 Miami Bellydance convention is ALL ABOUT PARTYING!!!!!!!

We are opening the Thursday Night event with a real Middle Eastern Hafla and celebration! Therefore we want to hear your suggestions, so that we can make this opening party the BEST for everyone!! Keep in mind that we want to start the event with a celebration so if you are a Miami resident, tell us where would you like to have the opening party for the 2012 MBC… Would you rather prefer a restaurant or a club? Arish Lam (Puerto Rico)

Arish Lam was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He began his journey into the world of oriental dance in 1998 with Leyla Zahar. Considered a Master Teacher, he has studied with some of the best instructors in the field, and he keeps taking as many seminars as he can. Some of his teachers have been Amir Thaleb, Dr. Mo, Mohamed El sahed, Mohamed Shain, Fathiem, Angelika Nemeth, Aziza, Leyla Hadad, Jasmina Ramzy, Unmata, Ava Fleming, Ariellah, among others. Arish Lam is the recipient of various awards. In 1999 he won the Belly Dancer of the Year Competition, in California, in the male category. The following year, he won the same contest with his troupe. In 2000, he won the first prize of the contest Ms. And Mr. America Bellydancer in San Francisco. In 2005 he won the second prize at the event Bellyfusion, in Las Vegas. He has also trained dancers who have won many prizes, most recently Valerick Molinary, who won first prize at the Pro Competition of the Miami Bellydance Convention, in 2009.

He has performed and served as judge in various competitions in the USA, Europe, and Asia. For years, Arish Lam has used his creativity and art concentrating in tribal fusion with Latin music; he is known to be exhilarating and contagious wherever he performs. An actor and performer, Arish Lam is the President of the Temple of Dance School in Puerto Rico, and Director and Choreographer of the one and only Mirácula troupe. He is a favorite at Spirit of the Tribes and Mediterranean Echoes, where he always captivates the audience with the power of his movements and spell bounding presence.

Ozzy is a master percussionist with over 10 years of instructional and performance darbuka drumming experience. Fascinated by rhythm, Ozzy is constantly striving to innovate the art of drumming by developing new combinations using interesting techniques.

Half Moroccan and half Egyptian, Ozzy was born in Israel and raised in Miami, Florida. His showmanship and style is reflective of his hot-blooded roots and influenced by his hometown’s vibrant Latin dance and music scene. Ozzy’s drumming is eccletic; the same way you see Ozzy drumming to today’s hottest music, you can find him performing alongside classically trained Egyptian bellydancers.

Ozzy has performed with renowned groups such as Hahbi’Ru, Zatar and Qadim as well as popular bellydancers such as Jillina, Ansuya, and Jill Parker. Ozzy has recorded with world famous composer Paul Dinletir, and with Latin Grammy nominated artist Elsten Torres.

Currently, Ozzy is on tour as the lead drummer for Jillina’s theatre production, Bellydance Evolution, as well as teaching workshops all around the world and online on DarbukaOzzy.com. He is also working on releasing instructional DVDs and his new album, “Yallah Tabla” due to release later this year.
