The 2010 Miami Bellydance Competition:

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AS OUR TERMS & CONDITIONS HAS CHANGED
Preliminaries for ALL categories will be Friday September 3rd starting at 5pm exact Eastern Time. Six finalists for each category will be selected to compete for the FINAL competition on Sunday September 5th at 8pm. Final score on the preliminaries on Friday will NOT be announce live on stage. Each member will have to find their individual final score at the main registration table at the end of the prliminaries competition. The Final scores of the competition on Sunday will we announce live on stage and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place winners for each category will be selected.
Professional Category competition is reserved to professional dancers with sufficient stage experience to dance to a live band. Professional category is open to all dancers that engage dancing as a profession or as a livelihood. Please note that the Miami Bellydance Convention is not responsible for any changes in your live music from the band. The live band plays based on their interpretation of the music you choose. All members of our band are experienced musicians originally from the Middle East, so be aware that the song you hear on a CD it is not necessarily the original version, or the exact version you will hear on stage from our musicians. Therefore, be prepared for changes in certain parts of your song that you will have to improvise to. Professional category will need to perform to the same song twice: First time to your own CD on the preliminaries on Friday, and the second time to a live band provided by the MBC in the finals on Sunday.
Amateur dancers are invited to participate in our Up-coming star category preliminaries. Please note: this category is open to all dancers that pursue dancing as a study or hobby and does not get paid for it. If you are signing up to participate in this category, it is necessary for you to choose two different songs for competition. One to be use for the preliminaries on Friday, and the other one for the final round on Sunday’s competition. Please be aware that your time limit is 5 minutes max, anything exceeding this time frame will not be accepted.
Group Category: Is Open to all groups of 3 dancers or more. If you are signing up your group to the Miami Bellydanace Competition, please note that this category requires to perform to the same song twice. Ones for the preliminaries held on Friday September 3rd and the the second time for the final competition on Sunday September 5th. Please be aware that your time limit is 5 minutes max, anything exceeding this time frame will not be accepted. This competition is for Raks Sharki performances only. No fusions are allowed!
All dancers MUST be 18 years old or older.
- Cover-ups MUST be worn when not performing and in view of the audience.
- This competition is for Raks Sharki performances only. Tribal fusion, American Tribal Style, hip-hop, or any other dance fusion music and performances, will be disqualified from the competition.
- Inappropriate behavior on stage will lead to a final disqualification from the competition.
- Deadline to enter the 2010 MBC Competition is August 1st 2010. All applications received after the deadline will not be accepted. (No exceptions)
- Performer(s) will be responsible for submitting 2 working CD containing their performance music on it. (Applies to All Categories)
- Dancers will turn in their music on a CD with their name written clearly and just the music you will be using for the performance on the CD. The DJ will not be able to decipher music so please be perfectly clear.
- Please be absolutely certain that the music file you burn is wav, wma or mp3– other formats may not function. Bring the original or a different format as a back-up if possible. Music must be of tasteful content, no cursing, explicit or derogatory language. Each dancer is responsible for collecting their music at end of show if they need it back.
- There will not be rehearsals for competitors.
- All applications MUST be submitted by mail with a check or Money Order payable to the Miami Bellydance Convention with the appropriate category Fees.
- Soloist category: $80.00 entry fee. Group category: $150.00 entry fee.
9- There is a 4 – 5 minute time limit for your performance – The music will be stopped at the 5 minute mark (No exceptions).

Check-in Procedures:
There will be one main check-in area at the MBC. Please check in on the second floor as soon as you arrive at the hotel to verify your registrations at the MBC.
ONE HOUR PRIOR to the start of the competition, all contestants must report to the Ballroom to be checked in.
Preliminaries Check-in: Friday September 3rd at 4pm (Eastern Time)-Second floor of the hotel.
Finals Check in: Sunday September 5th at 6pm (Eastern time)-Second Floor of the hotel.
Early check in will not be available.
Contestants must arrive to the Contestant Dressing room in full costume and makeup with a cover-up or caftan over your costume (veils are not a cover up).
Your place in the line-up of contestants will be based on the date your original entry form and fee was received.
Leaving the ballroom once you are checked in is not allowed but only for restroom breaks. Bring water, snacks and your iPod to practice!
The Miami Bellydance Convention, will not hand, mail, or be responsible for competitor’s individual score sheets. Competitors are responsible for finding their proper score sheets at the main registration table, at the end of the competition.
Judging:
Judges will decide their final results based on five categories:
- Technique: 20 Points
- Choreography: 20 Points
- Execution: 20 Points
- Stage Presence & Costuming: 20 Points
- Music Selection: 20 Points
- Total Points possible: 100
The 6 contestants on Friday with the highest total points will proceed to the final round of the competition on Sunday. In the case of a tie, producers have the right to add a 7th contestant to the finals.
The 3 contestants selected on Sunday with the highest cumulative total points will be awarded 1st- 2nd- and 3rd place respectively in all categories. In the event of a tie, any bonus points given by the judges will be added to the total to determine the winner.
All decisions of the judges are final.
