Join us for an Exciting Competition judged by our experienced cast of International renowned Instructors. This year All dancers will receive recognition for every act performed in our awards ceremony. Participants will receive written score sheets along with constructive comments from every judge.

Fabulous prizes along with Specialty Awards for Overall High Score, Outstanding Choreography, Technical abilities, Most Entertaining and Best Costume. Trophies for 1st,2nd and 3rd place winners!

COMPETITION ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All DIVISIONS 

  • Professional Soloist: Reserved to professional dancers with sufficient stage experience to dance to a live band. Professional category is open to all dancers that engage dancing as a  profession or as a livelihoodMinimum requirement 4 years of experience. All dancers in this division will have to compete in preliminary round to their own music CD before going to final round with live band. Music choice for this division must consist of traditional Oriental pieces. No fusion dance allowed!
  • Rising Star Soloist: Open to all Amateur dancers that  pursue  dancing as a study or hobby and do not get paid for dance services or teaching jobs. All dancers in this division will have to compete in preliminary round to their own music CD before going to final round. Dancers in this division are NOT required to have two different routines for competition (This is optional). Music choice for this division must consist of Middle Eastern music ONLY. No fusion dance allowed!
  • Folkloric Soloist: Open to a folkloric Middle Eastern Dance Pieces ONLY! Dancers in this division must choose from one folkloric style of dance and present this style on stage.  Music choice for this division  must represent the true essence of the Folkloric Middle Eastern Dance you picked, fusion music or pieces  are not allowed! Costume should match the style of dance chosen. Dancers must email in advanced a short explanation of their dance piece in writing which will be explained on stage for audience and judges. All dancers in this division will have to compete in preliminary round to their own music CD before going to final round. Dancers in this division are NOT required to have two different routines for competition (This is optional). 
  • Teen Star Soloist: Must be registered by a parent or guardian of 21 years of age or older. This division is to be performed by the teen themselves (coaches or teachers cannot perform with them on stage). All dancers in this division will have to compete in preliminary round to their own music CD before going to final round. Dancers in this division are NOT required to have two different routines for competition (This is optional). Music choice for this division must consist of Middle Eastern music ONLY. No fusion dance allowed!
  • Junior Soloist: Must be registered by a parent or guardian of 21 years of age or older. This division is to be performed by the child themselves (coaches or teachers cannot perform with them on stage). All dancers in this division will have to compete in preliminary round to their own music CD before going to final round. Dancers in this division are NOT required to have two different routines for competition (This is optional). Music choice for this division must consist of Middle Eastern music ONLY. No fusion dance allowed! 
  • Junior-Group: Must include 2 dancers or more per team! Junior  group division must compete alone on stage coach or instructor cannot perform with group. Must be registered by a parent or guardian of 21 years of age or older. All dancers in this division will have to compete in preliminary round to their own music CD before going to final round. Dancers in this division are NOT required to have two different routines for competition (This is optional). Music choice for this division must consist of Middle Eastern music ONLY. 
  • Teen Group: Must include 2 dancers or more per team! Teen  group division must compete alone on stage, coach or instructor cannot perform with group. Must be registered by a parent or guardian of 21 years of age or older. All dancers in this division will have to compete in preliminary round to their own music CD before going to final round. Dancers in this division are NOT required to have two different routines for competition (This is optional). Music choice for this division must consist of Middle Eastern music ONLY. 
  • Pro. Group: Must include 2 dancers or more per team! All dancers in this division will have to compete in preliminary round to their own music CD before going to final round. Dancers in this division are NOT required to have two different routines for competition (This is optional). Music choice for this division must consist of Middle Eastern music ONLY. 

SCORING

  1. Technique – 20 possible points
  2. Outstanding Choreography & Music Selection  – 20 possible points 
  3. Execution of movements (Layering & Flow) – 20 possible points 
  4. Stage Presence &  Most Entertaining – 20 possible points 
  5. Best Costume – 20 possible points 

100 Possible Points – Perfect Score Each judge score sheet will be added and Final overall high score will determined the winners. In the event of a tie, the judges reserve the right to choose their favorite dancer that has demonstrated more capacity to perform on the stage in front of the audience or with the band in the case of the professional division. Any bonus points given by the judges will be added to the total to determine the winner.

JUDGES

Our judges are world renowned instructors. They are some of the most encouraging, friendly, and knowledgeable Teacher/Adjudicators in the business who have already served as a judge on several National and International Dance Competitions. In Addition to score sheets, judges will make constructive comments for each routine they adjudicate. The Judges  should be highly respected because of their competence and hard work needing intensive attention during the competition. No dancer neither any other participant may disturb the judges during scoring competitors. Any remarks or disrespect against a judge will be penalized by the Competition Director.

TROPHIES

Trophies will be awarded in each age division and performance category. A minimum of 5 entries in any given category is required for 1st through 3rd place trophy to be awarded. A 1st place trophy only will be awarded in categories with less than 5 entries.

MEDALS

Medals are awarded to group divisions indicating their placement. 2nd & 3rd place groups will receive medals.

PRIZE AWARDS 

  • Pro Soloist Division: 1st place winner – A full VIP PASS to next year’s festival with access to all workshops and shows.  A crown, trophy, tittle, and a professional costume from one of our vendor sponsors. The opportunity to be a featured instructor and perform at next Year’s festival.
  • All Soloist Divisions 2nd & 3rd Place winners – ONE DAY PASS AT next year’s  festival with access to workshops and shows on that one specific day. A Trophy and tittle. The amazing opportunity to perform at the opening gala show at our next years MBC festival. 

  • All Soloist Divisions1st Place Winner – A full VIP PASS to next year’s festival with access to all workshops and shows.  A crown, trophy, tittle, and score sheet with comments by judges.  Plus the amazing opportunity to perform at our next year’s festival opening  gala event. 
  • All Group Divisions1st Place winner – Each Member will Receive A Performers Pass  (3 workshops of your choice on the same day) to next years festival.  One  Trophy for group, one medal for each member, certificate signed by all  judges. Plus the amazing opportunity to perform at our next year’s festival opening  gala event. 
  • All Group Divisions 2nd & 3rd Place winners- Each Member will receive One workshop of choice  to next year’s festival, One medal for each member, and score sheet with comments by judges .

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & CONDITIONS

  • All fees must be paid Online 1 MONTH PRIOR to competition to receive these rates.
  •  Registrations are NOT  confirmed & complete unless registration fee is paid and we receive your online registration form.
  • ALL Music must be sent to our email at compete@miamibellydanceconvention.net on an MP3 file with name of contestant and specific information for your preliminary and final competition.
  • Place in the competition line-up  will be based on date registration is received. First dancer to register will go last in their respective division.
  • The Miami Bellydance Convention is not responsible for any changes in your live music made by the band. The live band plays based on their own interpretation of  music choice. All members of our band are experienced & professional musicians with sufficient experience to play your song version.
  • Songs to be performed with the live band will be provided by the band based on availability to play. List of songs will be provided by competition director.
  • Songs cannot be repeated by dancers, songs will be given on a first come first serve basis.
  • Children and teens can have their parent, coaches, or guardian in the dressing room to help with competition preparation. For space reasons we only allow 2 people per contestant. No exceptions.
  • Cover-ups MUST be worn by all contestants  when not performing on stage.
  • Inappropriate behavior on stage will lead to a final disqualification from the competition.
  • Deadline to enter the  Competition is August 1st 2017. All applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.
  • There will not be stage rehearsals for any competitors.
  • Music must be of tasteful content, no cursing, explicit or derogatory language.
  • Please have back up music for each routine ready on hand.
  • Competing dancers may enter routines in multiple categories as long as they are not competing against themselves in the same division, category, and age group.
  • All ages are based as of Jan. 1, 2017. Dancers must be able to provide proof of age in questionable situations as upon request from Miami Belly dance Convention.
  • A 15-point deduction will result for those routines that do not comply with the above listed guidelines.
  • Entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • All attendees authorize the use of their images in photos and video for any Miami Bellydance Convention promotional purposes.
  • No Fax or mail registrations are  accepted.
  • Confirmation and scheduling information will be emailed 1 week prior to the event.
  • All routines must be family viewing. Disqualification or point deduction will occur if judges/directors feel a routine is not within guidelines.
  • Judges score sheets and comments are available to teachers, dancers, studio owners, representatives for pick up on after competition. MBC takes no responsibility for those that are not picked up at the event.
  • Judges break all ties and decisions by judges are FINAL.
  • Routines must perform in their scheduled order unless discussed with a director beforehand. A 15 point deduction may occur for those that do not comply.
  • All participants agree to make all costume changes quickly in order to keep the competition running on schedule. Unreasonable delays can result in disqualification of the routine.
  • There is NO videotaping or photography of any kind during the competition, classes, and in dressing rooms.
  • Cell phones should be turned  off or vibrate mode while seated in the venue during gala shows, and competition. Phone use should be limited to the lobby area of the venue.
  • Competition admission is required to be paid online or at the door for all family members and friends.
  • Convention wristbands must be worn at all times.
  • All Competitors are allowed to watch competition but MUST seat in the back of  room. Do not disturb audience watching or a 15 point deduction may occur for those that do not comply.
  • Check-in for Preliminary and Final rounds are 1 hour prior to competition start time. Dancers must check-in with competition director in dressing room area.
  • Directors have final decision and interpretation of all rules and regulations.
  • Schedule is always subject to change.

WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEKEND?
